The programme was held in Conference hall, Sophia block. The program began at 9.30 am with a prayer song by the students of final year degree class, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries .The dignitaries present for the inaugural program were Dr. Venkatesh Sanjeeva, Consultant Surgeon and Specialist in Breast Diseases,Sr. Dr.Maria Roopa A.C, Joint Secretary, St. Agnes Institutions and Dr. Geetha Nazareth, Coordinator , Star College Status .
M.C. for the program, Ms. Namitha Agnel from final year degree class, Mrs Prajwal Rao, Head of the department of Microbiology welcomed the dignitaries and introduced the Keynote speaker Dr Venkatesh Sanjeeva to the audience.
First session was taken up by Dr.Venkatesh Sanjeeva, in his keynote address enlightened the audience on the topic “Breast Diseases”, wherein he briefed the gathering on various diseases related to women ,diseases of the breast and how to differentiate them from breast cancer. He spoke in detail about various forms of breasts cancer, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the same. This was followed by a question and answer session’. Ms Relisha from final year degree class thanked the speaker. Mrs Emima David, Dean of Science presented a memento as a gesture of appreciation.
Second session was taken up by Dr. Mamatha Ballal, Professor, Department of Microbiology, KMC,MAHE,Manipal on the topic ‘ Microbiome’. She addressed the students on the various aspects such as irritable bowel syndrome, good and bad bacteria in the gut and research done in the field of microbiome. Dr. Bharat Prasad A.S., Professor, Department of Ageing Research, School Of Life Sciences, MAHE, Manipal, took over and spoke about “Careers in the field of Life Sciences”. He enlightened the students about career planning and stressed on the idea – When passion becomes Profession. He highlighted the talk using many stories and video clippings making it relevant and very interesting. Mrs Emima David, Dean of Science thanked both the speakers.
Third session was taken up by Dr. Vidyashree Kamath, Gynaecologist, KMC, Mangalore, spoke on the topic “Adolescent Health and Hygiene”. She emphasized on menstrual hygiene, personal hygiene, polycystic ovarian syndrome, sexually transmitted diseases and safety tips in relationship. Ms Alisha from final year degree thanked the speaker.
Fourth speaker Dr. Prerna Hegde, Dietician, KSHEMA, K.S.Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangalore spoke on the topic “Significance of nutritional food in maintaining health”. She spoke about change in lifestyle, obesity, good diet and importance of exercise. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks given by Mrs Ameetha, Assistant professor Department of Zoology.
