The Department of English, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangluru organised a workshop on ‘The Role of Translation in Indian Literature’ on 22 September 2022. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarise students with the intricacies of translation in Indian Literature and also to facilitate the learning of the new paper introduced under NEP that deals with translated works. There were three sessions. The resource persons were, Ms Raveena Mascarenhas, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of English, Dr Arun Ullal Assistant Professor, Department of Kannada and Dr Shailaja H. Head of the Department of Hindi.

It was a beautiful culmination of languages and cultures. Ms Raveena stressed on the role of translation in Indian literature. Dr Arun enlightened students about the historical background of Kannada literature and spoke about the rich literature of the time. He recited a few kavanas of Basavanna, Devara Dasimiya and Akkamahadevi which were a part of the NEP syllabus. The third session was by Dr Shailaja who spoke about the importance of translation and also career opportunities in this field. She concentrated on writers like Amrita Pritam and Mahaswetha Devi whose works were a part of the syllabus. The entire programme was managed efficiently by the role takers of II BA. Overall the workshop was a huge success and it hit the right chord with the students.
