St. Agnes College was filled with patriotic fervor and joy as gathered to commemorate the 79th Independence Day. The program commenced at 8:45 AM with a soulful prayer song that set a tone of reverence and unity. The chief guest Dr. Ita D’Souza, Associate Professor and Head of Chemistry Department, St Agnes College, was escorted by the NCC Cadets along with Sr. Dr M Venissa A C, the Principal, Sr Carmel Rita A C, Administrator and Lt Gayathri B K, ANO Army Wing and Flying Officer Dr Hithakshi B. ANO, Air Wing.

The highlight of the event was the flag hoisting ceremony, where the national flag was raised high amidst patriotic feel and applause. The chief guest for the occasion, Dr. Ita D’Souza, delivered an inspiring address. She acknowledged India’s remarkable progress over the decades but also emphasized the challenges that still lie ahead, including inequality, access to quality education and healthcare, corruption, environmental concerns, and youth unemployment.

Dr. Ita D’Souza urged everyone to embody true patriotism through honest self-evaluation, standing against injustice, respecting all citizens regardless of background, and working towards sustainable development. Her words resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring a collective sense of responsibility and hope for the nation’s future.

As part of the celebrations, NCC cadets led a spirited campaign under the initiative “Har Ghar Tiranga.” They marched through the surrounding areas of the college, carrying flags and distributing Indian flags to residents and shopkeepers, fostering a sense of pride and patriotism among the community. This activity not only reinforced national unity but also instilled a sense of responsibility among the youth to contribute positively to society.

The program was enlivened by patriotic songs performed by students, further igniting the spirit of nationalism. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of patriotism and commitment to the nation’s growth.

In total, around 203 participants, including staff and students, actively participated in the celebrations, making it a memorable and inspiring Independence Day for all.
