The Department of Physical Education, St. Agnes College, organized the Kabaddi Tournament “Mat Yudh 2025” with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit. The inaugural ceremony commenced with a prayer song, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Shamya. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, symbolizing knowledge and hope, and the unveiling of the tournament trophy. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Mrs. Jayashree Salian, Physical Director of St. Agnes PU College, inspired the gathering by highlighting that the tournament provided students with an opportunity to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. She extended her best wishes to all the participants for success in the tournament. The programme concluded with the Presidential Address by Sr. Venessa A.C., who emphasized the importance of indigenous games and motivated the students with her encouraging words.

The tournament saw enthusiastic participation from nine men’s teams and three women’s teams. It was organized in a league-cum-knockout format, with a total of 19 matches played, highlighting remarkable athleticism and teamwork. Each team consisted of seven players on the field along with five substitutes. The women’s matches were conducted in a league format.

The valedictory ceremony was graced by Sr. Dr. Venora A.C., PG Coordinator, as the Chief Guest. She was accorded a floral welcome and, in her address, stressed that participation is more important than winning.

The prizes for the individual events were distributed by Sr. Dr. Venora A.C., while the team event prizes were presented by Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C, Sr. Dr Roopa Rodrigues and Dr. Uday Kumar.

The results of the Intramural Matyudh Kabaddi Tournament are as follows:

Men’s Section:

The winners were MCA-A United, and the runners-up were Team Invincible. The individual awards for men were given to Sunil Devadiga as the Best Raider, Sachin as the Best Defender, and Preetham as the Best All-Rounder.

Women’s Section:

The winners were Team Karna, and the runners-up were Team MBA Elite. The individual awards for women were given to Adithi Shetty as the Best Raider, Mokshitha as the Best Defender, and Pooja J. Shetty as the Best All-Rounder.

The ceremony celebrated the discipline, energy, and teamwork of all participating players, bringing the tournament to a memorable close. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Carol, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, and the organizing committee.
