As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the Department of Psychology organized a cultural program titled “Back to Roots” on 14th August 2025. The event was designed to revive traditional games, strengthen community bonding among postgraduate psychology students, and foster appreciation of India’s cultural heritage through play.

Event Highlights

The program commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Sandra, Vice President of the Postgraduate Psychology Department, who extended warm greetings to Sr. Dr. Vinora A.C. (Coordinator, PG Studies), faculty members, and participants. This was followed by an inaugural address delivered by Dr. V. Premanand, who highlighted the relevance of traditional games in reconnecting with nature, fostering community living, and enhancing overall well-being.

To create an energetic atmosphere, Ms. Akshatha (I M.Sc. Psychology) led the students through a lively warm-up session. The participants were then guided to different venues for the traditional games, each coordinated by senior students:

Hide and Seek – Venue: L7 (Second Floor) | In-charge: Ms. Shivani and team (II M.Sc. Psychology)

Hop and Catch – Venue: PG Auditorium | In-charge: Ms. Mahima and team (II M.Sc. Psychology)

Stone Game – Venue: L4 (Ground Floor) | In-charge: Ms. Samra and team (II M.Sc. Psychology)

The games were conducted simultaneously, and the students participated with great enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere of joy, camaraderie, and cultural nostalgia. The activities concluded at 4:45 PM.

A short valedictory function was held immediately after the competitions. Ms. Sandra announced the winners of each game, and Sr. Dr. Vinora A.C. felicitated the first and second place winners with prizes. The program concluded with a cheerful group photograph, capturing the spirit of togetherness and celebration.

The “Back to Roots” program was a memorable and enriching experience, blending cultural traditions with recreational spirit. It rekindled fond memories of childhood games while promoting values of unity, teamwork, and cultural appreciation among students. The enthusiastic participation of students, along with the dedicated support of faculty members and volunteers, ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
