The UG Department of Nutrition and Health Education, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Forum and Women’s Cell, organized a guest lecture on the occasion of National Nutrition Week. The session was held on 1st September 2025 at 10:00 am in A4 Hall, focusing on the theme: “Balancing the Invisible Health Triangle: Smart Snacking, Screen Time, Sleep, and Sustainable Weight Management Beyond Diet Culture.”

The program commenced with a prayer song rendered by Ms. Anushree and a group of II-year NHE students. Ms. Rimsha Zainab, a II-year NHE student, served as the Master of Ceremony, ensuring a smooth flow of the event. Mrs. Prima Ferrao, Assistant Professor, Department of NHE, delivered the welcome address, followed by Dr. Deviprabha Alva, who florally welcomed the guest. Ms. Akshatha R Sanil, Assistant Professor, Department of NHE, introduced the resource person, Ms. Sanjana M Shenoy, Consultant Dietician and Research Scholar.

In her insightful session, Ms. Sanjana M Shenoy emphasized the importance of smart snacking, explaining how nutritious snacks can support energy levels, improve concentration, and prevent unhealthy overeating. She elaborated on screen time management, highlighting its impact on mental health, sleep quality, and physical activity. The session also covered the significance of adequate sleep, its role in metabolism, cognitive function, and emotional well-being. Furthermore, she stressed sustainable weight management, advocating for a holistic approach that moves beyond restrictive diet culture, focusing instead on balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, mindful eating, and mental wellness. The lecture included practical tips, strategies, and examples that students could incorporate into their daily routines to maintain overall health.

The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Devika A J, II-year NHE student, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, faculty, and participants for making the event a success.
