Ms. Queenie began the session by explaining the difference between a resume and a CV, the importance of resumes in professional life, and what one needs to know before creating one. She elaborated on the key sections of a resume, including the header with personal details, a professional summary, skills (both technical and soft), education, projects and internships, certifications, and achievements. She emphasized that resumes must be concise, clear, and tailored to the job role.
The session also covered the three major resume formats: reverse chronological (preferred), functional (ideal for freshers), and combination. Ms. Queenie explained what recruiters look for in a resume, such as basic details, skills and expertise, experience and projects, ability to deliver results, cultural fit, and availability. She further shared resume writing tips, such as focusing on measurable results, citing how skills have benefited a team or employer, highlighting contact information, using bullet points, and maintaining a clean and professional format.
The speaker concluded by emphasizing that the most challenging aspect of resume writing lies in being selective about what to include, as an effective resume should showcase only the most relevant and impactful information. The session proved to be highly insightful and practical, equipping students with the confidence to craft strong resumes that reflect their skills, strengths, and aspirations. The Department expressed gratitude to Ms. Queenie Maria Dcosta for generously sharing her knowledge and experience, which provided students with valuable clarity and practical strategies to design impactful resumes in line with industry expectations.
