The Department of Chemistry organized an academia–industry interaction seminar on “Career Paths in Chemistry: Industry Insights” for both UG and PG Chemistry students on 3rd March 2026 in the PG Auditorium. The resource person for the event was Mrs. Prajwal Mathais, Associate Director at Syngene International Limited, Bengaluru. With more than 25 years of experience in the chemical industry and being a proud alumna of the college, she brought valuable real-world insights to the session.

The programme commenced with an invocation seeking God’s blessings through a prayer rendered by Keerthika and team from I M.Sc. Chemistry. Ms. Ananya served as the emcee for the event. Mrs. Helen Serrao, Head of the Department of Chemistry (UG), warmly welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person to the audience.

Mrs. Prajwal Mathais shared her extensive industry experience by highlighting the wide spectrum of career opportunities available in the chemical sector, including roles in research and development, quality control and assurance, regulatory affairs, production, analytical services, and corporate functions. She explained how each domain demands specific technical competencies, practical laboratory expertise, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and adaptability to rapidly evolving industrial technologies. She also emphasized the growing importance of emerging and trending fields such as peptide chemistry, computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, green chemistry, and data-driven research approaches. She elaborated on how advancements in automation, artificial intelligence, and molecular modelling are transforming research and development processes, thereby opening new and dynamic career avenues for chemistry graduates.

In addition, she provided detailed guidance on preparing an effective, industry-oriented CV, stressing clarity, relevance of academic projects, internships, technical skills, certifications, and the need to highlight measurable achievements. She discussed practical strategies for approaching job opportunities through professional networking, LinkedIn optimization, internships, campus placements, and direct applications to companies. Furthermore, she offered valuable tips for interview preparation, including understanding the company profile, revising core subject knowledge, preparing for technical questions, demonstrating confidence, and maintaining professional etiquette. The session concluded on an interactive note, with students actively engaging in discussion, raising thoughtful questions, and clarifying their doubts regarding career pathways, industry expectations, growth prospects, and the transition from academia to the corporate environment.

Dr. Amrutha K, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Sr. Roopa Rodrigues, Vice Principal; Dr. Sapna Kumari M, Head of the Department of PG Chemistry; and Ms. Maya Laxmi, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, were also present during the event.
