The PG Department of Business Administration (MBA), St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organized a Career Guidance Talk titled “Cheat Code for Young Professionals” on 27th February 2026 at 11:15 AM for the MCA 2nd year students. The session was conducted for a duration of two hours under the guidance of the Principal, Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C.

The session was delivered by Ms Joylene Lobo, Assistant Professor, MBA Department, who brings over three years of industry experience, having worked as a US Tax Associate at KPMG and as an Audit Assistant at a Chartered Accountant firm. The session aimed to equip students with practical strategies to secure employment and sustain long-term growth in the corporate world.

The talk began with guidance on how to secure a job in today’s competitive environment. Detailed insights were provided on resume preparation, including the difference between ATS (Applicant Tracking System) friendly resumes and traditional resumes and how to tailor resumes based on the type of interview and organization. The effective use of job portals and the importance of applying strategically to multiple job opportunities were emphasized. Students were guided on what employers expect from freshers, such as communication skills, adaptability, responsibility and a willingness to learn. Common interview questions were discussed and students were encouraged to ask thoughtful and relevant questions during interviews. It was also highlighted that academic performance and marks are important, as they often open portals to better opportunities and reputed organizations.

A significant part of the session focused on transitioning from a student mindset to an employee mindset. The importance of cultivating professional habits such as respecting deadlines, being punctual, maintaining discipline and following a structured schedule was emphasized. The speaker stressed that professional success depends not only on technical knowledge but also on attitude, consistency, and work ethics.Drawing from her professional journey in the corporate sector, she shared personal experiences and observations from her time in the corporate environment and audit practice. These real-world insights helped students understand workplace expectations, communication practices and the realities of corporate life.

Special emphasis was placed on understanding workplace boundaries and maintaining a healthy balance between professional and personal life. Students were encouraged to contribute meaningfully to their organizations while safeguarding their personal time, mental well-being and relationships. The importance of setting boundaries, managing time effectively and sustaining both mental and physical health was highlighted.The session also covered essential employment documentation required while joining and leaving an organization, the importance of understanding offer letters and experience certificates, and the significance of maintaining a Provident Fund (PF) account and developing saving habits.

The talk was highly interactive, practical and motivational. By combining career guidance with industry exposure and personal insights, the session inspired students to work hard, stay disciplined and prepare themselves confidently for a successful professional journey.
