The Department of Commerce organized an extension activity by Final year B .Com students on 26th February 2026 at St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Nanthoor with the objective of creating awareness among students about reducing excessive mobile phone usage and encouraging the habit of reading books.
The session was thoughtfully designed to inspire young minds to understand the importance of knowledge gained through books and the harmful effects of excessive screen time. The program began with an engaging storytelling session by Sr. Valenteena, who vividly narrated real-life incidents and meaningful stories highlighting the side effects of mobile phone addiction. She emphasized how overuse of mobile phones can affect concentration, academic performance, health, and interpersonal relationships. Her stories were relatable and created a strong impact on the students.
Ms. Shristi then addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of books in shaping one’s knowledge, character, and imagination. She explained how reading enhances vocabulary, creativity, critical thinking, and overall personality development. She encouraged students to cultivate the habit of daily reading and to consider books as lifelong companions.
To make the session interactive and lively, Ms. Anjolie and Ms. Dafny conducted fun and meaningful games. These activities helped students understand the message in an enjoyable manner and ensured active participation from everyone. The games reinforced the importance of spending more time with books rather than gadgets.
The entire extension activity was conducted under the able guidance of Ms. Merin V M and Ms. Bhoomika, whose constant support and encouragement ensured the smooth execution of the program. Their leadership and coordination played a vital role in making the session impactful and successful.
