The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry, St Agnes College, successfully conducted a certificate course on “Eco-Friendly Cosmetics: Science and Innovations” from July 7 to July 27, 2025. The course aimed to educate participants on the science behind preparing eco-friendly and sustainable cosmetics. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Carol Lobo, Assistant Professor, Department of Dermatology, St Joseph’s Medical College, Bangalore, who delivered a keynote address on “Anatomy and Physiology for Skin Care Professionals”. The online theory classes and offline practical sessions were conducted over a period of 30 hours, with 18 beneficiaries participating in the course.

Dr. Geetha M Pinto, Associate Professor in Chemistry, and Dr. Amrutha K, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, from the PG Department of Chemistry, St Agnes College, served as resource speakers for the course. They covered topics such as the science and formulation of different cosmetic products, sustainable practices, and career choices in the field.

The certificate course culminated in a practical session on soap, lip balm, and other cosmetic making in the Cosmetic Chemistry Laboratory at St Agnes College on July 27, 2025. The participants gained hands-on experience in formulating and preparing eco-friendly cosmetics, and were awarded certificates upon completion of the course.

The course was well-received by the participants, who appreciated the comprehensive coverage of the subject matter and the practical training provided.
