On 18th July 2025, the Department of Clinical Psychology organized a full-day Skill Development Program titled “Eye See the Healing: An Introduction to Trauma and EMDR” as part of its academic enrichment initiatives. The session, held at the PG Auditorium, was facilitated by Ms. Samyukta Vaidyanathan, Assistant Professor at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and a certified EMDR therapist. Attended by 55 students and 4 faculty members, the workshop aimed to introduce the psychological and neurobiological foundations of trauma and present EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as an evidence-based intervention. Ms. Vaidyanathan covered core concepts such as the Window of Tolerance, polyvagal theory, and neuroception, while also detailing the 8-phase EMDR protocol and its therapeutic use of bilateral stimulation. The session combined theoretical frameworks with practical tools including grounding techniques and client attunement, making it both clinically relevant and engaging. Participants found the workshop insightful, interactive, and valuable for trauma-informed practice.
