The Department of Statistics of St. Agnes College organized a guest lecture on “Statistics- A Compass to Guide Journey in Data Science” for the Statistics students by the resource person Ms Ashma Dorothy Monteiro, Assistant Professor – Selection Grade, Department of Applied Statistics and Data Science, MAHE, Manipal. The speaker emphasized that Statistics is the backbone of Data Science and it helps in data-driven decision making and enables identification of patterns and correlations through various methods such as Descriptive, Inferential Statistics), Regression Analysis. Additionally, managing datasets is crucial, where a Training Dataset is used to build models, a Testing Dataset evaluates model performance, and a Validation Dataset fine-tunes models. The speaker also discussed Hypothesis Testing. The lecture was highly informative and interactive. Students gained valuable insights into the role of Statistics in Data Science.
