Name of the Activity: Guest Talk – Purchase and Supply Management in Hotel and Automobile
The PG Department of Business Administration organised an insightful guest talk for MBA students on 1st December 2025, aimed at enhancing their understanding of purchase, supply chain, and inventory management in two major sectors—automobile and hospitality. The programme began with a warm welcome address delivered by Esha from 2nd Year MBA, who introduced the Resource Speaker.
The resource speaker for the session was Mr. Ranjith Levinson Amanna, Assistant Purchase and Store Manager at The Avatar Hotel and Convention Centre, Mangaluru. He brought in rich practical experience from both the automobile industry (Mandovi Motors) and the hotel industry, giving students a comparative understanding of procurement operations. Mr. Ranjith spoke about the role of supply chain management in ensuring smooth business operations. Drawing from his experience at Mandovi Motors, he explained the complexities of purchasing automobile parts, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining optimal inventory to avoid delays in customer service. His insights helped students understand the significance of forecasting and cost management in the automobile sector.
He then discussed the procurement process in the hotel industry, emphasising the importance of daily purchasing, quality control, and proper storage. He shared how hotels must coordinate with various departments such as kitchen, housekeeping, and maintenance to ensure uninterrupted operations. He also spoke about the challenges of managing perishables, vendor evaluation, and maintaining hygiene standards in store management.
The session was highly informative and provided students with a real-world understanding of supply chain practices across two different industries. The comparative approach followed by the speaker helped students relate theoretical concepts to practical applications, making the session valuable and engaging.
