The UG Department of Nutrition and Health Education organised a guest lecture “Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future” on 16th October, 2024 from 1.30P.M.-2.30P.M. at A4 Hall. Ms. Asiyamath Shahda Firhath, Assistant professor, Yenepoya College,Kulur was invited as the guest speaker who delivered a talk focusing on the importance of healthy eating habits for teenagers. Ms. Shristi Donkar, a second-year NHE student, was the MC for the event. Ms. Anushree, from the first-year NHE, introduced Ms. Firhath as the resource person.

In her talk, Ms. Firhath explained that adolescence is a time of rapid growth, making it essential for young people to eat nutritious food. However, many teenagers tend to choose processed, unhealthy foods due to peer pressure, social media, or convenience.

She highlighted common issues like eating disorders, the Female Athlete Triad, and fad diets, noting that teenagers often face pressures to look a certain way, leading to harmful eating habits. Ms. Firhath emphasized the need for a balanced diet and urged students to follow healthy eating.

The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Keerthishree.
