The Department of Commerce organized a highly informative session on Sea Transport: Connecting the World’s Markets for the students of B.Com, BBA, and M.Com (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) on 25th August 2025 at Avila Hall (A4). The distinguished resource person for the day was Mr. Rolston Johnson Machado, Chief Engineer at Precious Shipping Limited. The event was also graced by Mrs. Vineetha N.T., Head of the Department of Commerce, and Ms. Merin V. M., staff coordinator, along with faculty members and students.
The programme commenced with a prayer song led by the B.Com students, which created a serene atmosphere. Following this, the guest speaker, Mr. Machado, delivered an enriching session in which he highlighted the vital role of sea transport in connecting global markets. He explained in detail the processes involved in shipping, including the delivery of raw materials and finished goods, the logistical framework, and the collaboration among multiple stakeholders such as shipping companies, freight forwarders, and port authorities.
The session was effectively compered by Ms. Karen Rodrigues of II BBA, while Mr. Vion Mendonca of II B.Com delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, dignitaries, and participants. The programme proved to be an engaging and insightful learning experience, broadening the students’ understanding of international trade and logistics.
