The two NCC Units (Army and Air Wing) of St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organised an exhibition and an interactive session on ‘Millets for Wellness’ on 5 August 2023 as the year 2023 is declared as the International year of millets. Ms Vishma D’Cunha, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru was the resource person. She addressed the NCC cadets and the members of the Women’s cell and Youth Red cross regarding the different types of millets – millets as nutri-cereals, the global scenario of millets, benefits of millet production and consumption, how it prevents diseases since it is rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. She further said that millets are good for farmers and the planet, as they have short crop duration and are adaptable to harsh climate. It has a low water footprint, zero carbon footprints and they are energy-efficient. Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C. Principal St Agnes College (Autonomous) witnessed the exhibition and appreciated the effort of the cadets. The staff and students of the college also visited the exhibition and provided positive feedback. Captain Gayathri BK, ANO Army wing and Flg Officer Dr Hithakshi, ANO Air wing facilitated the cadets.
