A session on “Skills Beyond Your Degree for Real Life Success” was organized for second year B.Com students on 25 March 2026, with the objective of equipping them with essential life skills that go beyond academic learning. The resource person for the session was Mrs. Shwetha Bharath, an accomplished educator, researcher, and published author in the field of English literature.

Mrs. Shwetha Bharath holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and a Bachelor of Education from Mangalore University. She is currently serving as an Assistant Professor, GD I in the Department of Humanities at NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), Nitte University, and is also pursuing her Ph.D. as a Research Scholar at Nitte University. Her research interests include Indian culture, folklore studies, gender studies, and Tulu oral traditions.

During the session, she emphasized the importance of developing essential skills such as communication, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking, which are crucial for real-life success. She shared valuable insights from her academic journey, research experience, and professional engagements, making the session highly relatable and inspiring for the students.

She also highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary learning and encouraged students to explore opportunities beyond their core subjects. Drawing from her experience of conducting sessions at various institutions and her background in the corporate sector as a Merchandiser at Gokaldas Exports, she provided practical perspectives on industry expectations and workplace readiness.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and engaging in discussions. Her passion for literature and creative expression was evident as she also spoke about her contributions to poetry and academic publications.

The programme was effectively compered by Ms Sweedal, a second-year B.Com student, who ensured the smooth flow of the session.

Overall, the session was insightful and enriching, leaving students motivated to focus on holistic development and acquire skills necessary for achieving success in both personal and professional life.
