The UG Department of Nutrition and Health Education organized a Traditional Food Expo – Celebrating the Essence of south Indian Cuisine on the occasion of National Nutrition Week. The event was held on 4th September 2025 at 11:30 am in A4 Hall.

The students of the Department, under the guidance of Mrs. Prima Ferrao and Ms. Akshatha R Sanil, faculty in-charges, planned and presented the exhibition. Various traditional cuisines from across India were beautifully displayed, showcasing the nation’s rich culinary diversity and cultural heritage. Nearly 40 authentic traditional dishes representing different states were exhibited. Each dish was presented in a traditional way, and the students explained the preparation, nutritional value, and cultural significance of the food to the visitors.

The expo was designed in line with the National Nutrition Week 2025 theme – “Eat Right for a Better Life”. By demonstrating how traditional recipes naturally incorporate pulses, millets, vegetables, and other nutrient-rich foods, the students emphasized that cultural eating habits can be powerful tools for maintaining health and well-being.

The event not only celebrated the taste and variety of Indian cuisine but also created awareness about the role of traditional diets in promoting good health and sustainable living. It encouraged the audience to value age-old recipes, mindful eating, and sustainable food practices in everyday life. The expo received an enthusiastic response from students and faculty, making it a memorable and educational celebration of National Nutrition Week.
