The Department of Zoology, St Agnes College (Autonomous) Mangaluru, organized a workshop titled “Understanding Evolutionary Relationships: A Workshop on Cladograms” on 29th August 2025. The session aimed to enhance students understanding of phylogenetic relationships and the construction of cladograms an essential concept in evolutionary biology. The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Sumangala Rao, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Commerce, Science and Management, Kulur, Mangaluru. Dr. Rao delivered an insightful and interactive session that helped students comprehend how organisms are classified based on shared characteristics and evolutionary lineage. Through practical examples and visual aids, she explained the significance of cladistics in studying biodiversity and evolutionary patterns. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Rachana L. Alva, HOD, Department of Zoology, St Agnes College and Velisha Serrao, Student Coordinator. The event was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C., Principal, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. Students actively participated in the session and appreciated the hands-on learning experience. The workshop provided valuable exposure to modern methods of phylogenetic analysis, fostering a deeper understanding of evolutionary biology. Overall, the workshop was highly informative and contributed to enriching the academic experience of Zoology students.
