The Department of Commerce, Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research, organized a session on “Union Budget Analysis” on 28th February 2026 at 10:00 a.m. The session was conducted for the final year students with the objective of providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the key highlights, implications, and economic impact of the Union Budget.

The resource person for the session was CA Nerissa C Noronha, Alumna of the institution and Proprietor of Nerissa Noronha & Co. With her professional expertise and practical exposure in the field of finance and taxation, she offered valuable insights into the various components of the Union Budget.

The speaker began the session by explaining the structure and significance of the Union Budget in shaping the nation’s economic policies. She elaborated on major allocations, changes in taxation, fiscal deficit targets, sector-wise developments, and reforms introduced in the recent budget. Special emphasis was given to its impact on businesses, individuals, start-ups, MSMEs, and the corporate sector.

The session enabled students to understand the practical implications of budgetary provisions beyond textbook knowledge. CA Nerissa also highlighted the relevance of budget analysis for commerce students, particularly for those aspiring to pursue careers in finance, accounting, taxation, and corporate sectors. She encouraged students to critically analyze policy changes and stay updated with financial developments.

The program was coordinated by Ms. Merin V M and Mr. Fredvin Crasta, Staff Coordinators of the Department of Commerce. The session was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Vineetha N T, Head of the Department of Commerce, and Sr Dr M Venissa A C, Principal of St Agnes College (Autonomous).

The session concluded successfully with positive feedback from the students. Overall, the program served as an enriching academic initiative that enhanced the students’ understanding of national economic planning and fiscal policy.
