Under the guidance of Ms. Soujanya, the final year ATC batch students visited Hongirana Orphanage on 14th February 2026, Saturday, as part of our practical exposure and community service activity. A total of eight students participated in the visit. We left the college at 9:00 AM and reached the orphanage at 9:20 AM by walking, as it is located nearby. On our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Mr. Louis, who is in charge of the institution. He provided us with a detailed introduction about the orphanage, explaining how it was established, its mission and objectives, and how it is maintained through the efforts of dedicated staff members and the support of donors and well-wishers. He also briefed us about the residents, their daily routine, and the type of care and services provided to them. After the introduction session, we were offered small snacks.

Following this, Mr. Louis explained the precautions that should be taken while working in the institution. He stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene, being patient and compassionate, handling residents gently, and communicating respectfully. He then introduced us to the staff members and workers and assigned duties to each student according to the needs of the institution. Some students were placed in the kitchen department to assist with cooking and food preparation. Some were assigned to patient care, helping residents with their daily needs. A few students assisted with medication under supervision, while others were given the responsibility of observation and spending quality time interacting and talking with the residents.

During our visit, we actively participated in helping the residents with walking, assisting in cooking, playing games with them, and spoon-feeding those who required support. The interaction was heartwarming and gave us a deeper understanding of empathy and service. After the residents had their lunch, we spent a little more time with them, sharing smiles and conversations, and we received small tokens of appreciation from them. We left the orphanage at 12:45 PM and returned to the college with a sense of satisfaction. The visit was truly a meaningful and enriching experience that enhanced our practical skills, teamwork, and sense of social responsibility, and we are sincerely grateful to Ms. Soujanya for guiding and encouraging us throughout this activity.
