The programme was compered by Ms. Serena, YRC Secretary, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. The inaugural session began with an introduction followed by a prayer by Sudhipta and group, invoking God’s blessings upon the gathering.
Dr. Gayathri N, Nodal Officer, Youth Red Cross, Mangalore University, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the significance of observing World Hearing Day to promote awareness among youth regarding ear and hearing care.
The ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the formal inauguration of the programme.
The Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr. B. Sachidanand Rai, President, KOA, Consultant Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon, Unity Hospital, and EC Member, IRCS D.K. He emphasised the importance of regular hearing check-ups, safe listening practices, and the responsibility of students in spreading health awareness in society.
The programme was presided over by Sr. Dr. Roopa Rodrigues A.C., Vice Principal, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. In her Presidential Address, she appreciated the collaborative efforts of the organising institutions and encouraged students to prioritise preventive healthcare.
The resource person for the programme was Prof. Prashanthi Poovaiah, Head, Department of Audiology, who delivered an informative session on ear hygiene, causes of hearing loss, preventive measures, and the importance of early intervention.
A special highlight of the programme was the model presentation and exhibition organised by the students of the Department of Speech and Hearing, Father Muller Medical College. The students displayed informative models and charts related to the structure of the ear, hearing mechanisms, common hearing disorders, and preventive care. The exhibition attracted active participation and helped students gain practical understanding through visual learning.
As part of the programme, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Reel Making Competition, recognising the creative efforts of students in spreading awareness about hearing health.
An Ear Check-Up Camp was conducted as part of the programme. Professional hearing screening and guidance were provided to all participants. Students from 13 colleges attended the camp, and a large number of participants benefited from the professional consultation and screening services provided by the experts.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Nimitha, Programme Officer, Youth Red Cross, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, who expressed sincere gratitude to all dignitaries, the resource person, organising members, volunteers, and participants for their valuable support and cooperation in making the programme a grand success.
