The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organised a National seminar on the topic “Breaking bonds, Building careers: The Chemistry of Endless Possibilities “ on 8 April 2024

The inaugural was held at 10:00 a.m in the PG Auditorium of the college. Stoney Gangmei was the Master of the Ceremony. The programme began by invoking the blessing of God by Sr. Tomsy and team which was followed by the welcome dance by Dilsha and Team.

Dr Geetha M Pinto, Associate Professor, PG Department of Chemistry & convener of the seminar welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp of knowledge by the dignitaries.

Principal Sr Dr Venissa A.C., PG Coordinator Sr Dr Vinora A.C., Faculty Convenor Dr Geetha M Pinto, Head of the PG Department of Chemistry Dr. Sapna Kumari M, Student Convenor Ms Bhavya P were present on the dais.

Dr Gurumurthy Hegde, Director, Centre for Advanced Research and Development, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru was the Chief Guest of the seminar. Dr Shivarama Holla, Former Professor and Chairman of Chemistry Department Mangalore University was the Guest of Honour. Principal Sr Dr Venissa A.C. gave the Presidential address.

The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry initiated an exciting extracurricular activity ‘Cosmetic Chemistry’ where the green cosmetic products are handmade by the faculty and students of the department. The brand logo and the cosmetic products were launched by the dignitaries and attendees as the witness. The products were introduced by Ms Bhoomi G Shetty from second year M.Sc. Chemistry. This was followed by the launch of e-magazine of the Department by the Principal Sr Dr M Venissa A.C. The e-magazine documented the history of the Department.

The first session on “ Electroplating: A definite tool for indefinite possibility in materials development” was given by Dr A Chitharanjan Hegde, Professor – Department of Chemistry, NITK, Surathkal.

This was followed by the second session on “Quality Research for Sustainable Economy” by Dr Gurumurthy Hegde, Director, Centre for Advanced Research and Development, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. In the afternoon session, he briefed about the various possibilities of research in the field of research.

The seminar concluded with the positive feedback and appreciation given by the participants. Dr Sapna Kumari, Head, PG Department of Chemistry rendered the vote of thanks
