On 16th March 2026, a guest lecture was conducted organised by department of Botany on Plant preservation techniques. Mrs Veena Kumari, alumna of St. Agnes currently serving as scientific officer, Botany Division, Pilikula Development Authority gave a hands on training to botany students on herbarium methodology. Mrs Veena emphasized that meticulous techniques and proper handling are crucial for maintaining high-quality herbarium specimens. She encouraged students to appreciate the scientific value of herbariums and consider careers in botanical research and conservation.
The session aimed to provide students and faculty with comprehensive knowledge about the methods involved in creating and maintaining herbariums, which are invaluable for botanical research and conservation. Herbarium techniques allow us to document plant species from different regions, especially rare and endangered ones. Proper preservation ensures these specimens can be studied for decades.”
