On 23rd February 2026, the students of the Department of Zoology and Faculty members visited the Nitte University Centre for Science, Education and Research (NUCSER), Laboratory to gain practical knowledge of histological techniques. The visit focused on understanding microtomy, slide preparation, and histopathological analysis. During the session, students were introduced to the working principles of a microtome, an essential instrument used for cutting thin sections of biological tissues for microscopic examination. The laboratory staff demonstrated the process of tissue fixation, dehydration, clearing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Special emphasis was given to proper slide preparation techniques to ensure clarity and accuracy in observation. The group also visited the histopathology laboratory, where they observed the examination of tissue samples for disease diagnosis. Students learned how stained tissue sections are analyzed under microscopes to identify structural changes associated with various pathological conditions.

The visit provided valuable hands-on exposure to laboratory procedures and enhanced the students’ understanding of microscopic techniques used in biological research and diagnostics. It was an informative experience that bridged theoretical knowledge with practical application.
