The cleanliness drive was conducted in the area outside the college gate and around the Agnes College Bus Stop. Before the activity, the surroundings were found to be in an unhygienic and untidy condition. Waste had been dumped along the sides of the bus stop and around the utility/electrical box, with plastic covers, bottles and other discarded materials visible in the area. The surroundings were also covered with weeds and overgrown vegetation, making the area look neglected and creating an unpleasant environment for students, commuters and the general public.
The student volunteers actively participated in the cleaning activity. They collected the waste that had been dumped around the bus stop, cleared the scattered plastic and other discarded materials, removed the overgrown weeds and cleaned the surrounding area. The volunteers worked together with enthusiasm and demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness in a public space.
The activity also provided an opportunity for students to understand the importance of proper waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness not only within the college campus but also in the surrounding public areas. Through their participation, the students contributed to improving the appearance and hygiene of an area frequently used by students, commuters and members of the public.
The drive was conducted in support of Sustainable Development Goal 13 – Climate Action, reinforcing the importance of responsible environmental practices. The activity conveyed the message that maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility and that active participation by young people can contribute to creating healthier and more sustainable surroundings.
The programme was carried out under the guidance of the Staff Coordinators, Mrs. Nimitha K and Ms. Iral Buena Rodrigues, with Ms. Shamitha Sathish and Ms. Amala Jasmine serving as the Student Coordinators.
