The Department of Microbiology, St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, successfully organised a Workshop on Basic Life Support (BLS) – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, at 10:45 a.m. in A2.

The workshop was organised to create awareness and equip students with essential life-saving skills required during medical emergencies. The programme focused on the importance of early intervention during cardiac and respiratory arrest and highlighted how timely and correct CPR can significantly increase survival rates.

The resource person for the workshop was Dr Prashant Donkar, BHMS, MD (Hom), Head of the Department of Practice of Medicine and Medical Clinical Instructor at Alva’s Homoeopathic Medical College, Moodbidri. He was accompanied by his medical students, who assisted him throughout the session by helping with demonstrations and practical explanations. The resource team provided a clear understanding of Basic Life Support protocols, including scene safety, assessment of consciousness, airway management, chest compressions, rescue breathing, CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants, as well as placing the patient in the recovery position.

The programme commenced with a prayer led by Tainunam and team, setting a calm and positive tone for the session. The programme was compered by Senona, who ensured the smooth flow of the event. The welcome and introduction of the resource person was delivered by Shrishti, following which the technical session began.

The workshop was highly interactive and engaging, with live demonstrations, visual explanations, and real-life emergency scenarios. Students actively participated in the session, clarifying doubts and gaining hands-on knowledge that would be useful not only in healthcare settings but also in everyday life situations where an immediate response is crucial.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Danyashree, expressing gratitude to the resource person, his team, faculty members, and organisers for the successful conduct of the workshop.

The programme was organised under the guidance of Mrs Prajwal Rao, Head, Department of Microbiology and Mrs Vidya Patali, Dean of Sciences. The workshop was well-received and stood as a meaningful initiative towards building awareness, responsibility, and preparedness among students.
