The Community Outreach Program is a part of Agnes Towrads Community initiative to teach Communicative English to students of Bagambilla Government School, Derlakatte. The program consisted of multiple visits conducted by different groups. The aim of these visits was to improve the students’ basic English communication skills through interactive lessons, activities, and games.
Each session focused on creating a friendly learning environment where students could actively participate and build confidence in using English. The program was conducted under the dedicated guidance of our ATC In-charge, Ms. Bhoomika, who provided invaluable support, mentorship, and direction throughout all the sessions, ensuring the program was purposeful, well-organized, and impactful.
Session 1 – 13th December 2025
The first visit was conducted on 13th December 2025 by Group 2, led by Ms. Shefali, with a team of nine members. Around nineteen students from Classes 1 to 5 were present during the session.
The session began with warm greetings, which helped create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. To encourage interaction, the students were asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, class, and hobbies. This activity helped the team learn more about the students and also encouraged them to speak confidently.
A member of the group then led the lesson on the topic “Nouns.” The concept was explained in a clear and simple manner with examples from daily life, so that the students could easily understand how nouns are used in everyday language.
To reinforce the concept, an interactive activity called the “Noun Basket Game” was conducted. In this activity, students were asked to identify different objects and categorize them according to the types of nouns. Additional exercises were also conducted to strengthen their understanding of the topic.
The students participated enthusiastically in all the activities and showed great interest in learning.At the end of the session, the students kindly offered malt and sweets as a gesture of appreciation.Their hospitality and enthusiasm made the experience memorable and satisfying for the entire team.
Session 2 – 17th January 2026
The second visit took place on 17th January 2026 and was conducted by Group 1, led by Ms. Spoorthi. Upon reaching the school, the group met the school principal to confirm the class they would be teaching. The principal directed them to teach the fifth standard students. The classroom consisted of nine students, including both boys and girls, with a teacher present during the session.
The session began with introductions of all group members to the students. The main topic taught during this visit was “Seasons.” The group used a chartto explain the different seasons and discussed the characteristics of each. Students were encouraged to interact by answering questions about their favourite season and the activities they enjoyed during that time of year. The lesson was delivered using a mix of English and Kannada to ensure clear comprehension.
A creative activity was conducted where students made a paper boat, representing the monsoon season. This was followed by fun games such as “Red Light, Green Light” and an activity similar to “Simon Says,” which the students enjoyed with great excitement.
Towards the end of the session, two team members narrated a short story related to the monsoon season, which the students listened to with interest. The session concluded on a positive note, with the team informing the school principal before departing.
Session 3 – 14th February 2026
The third visit was conducted on 14th February 2026 by Group3, led by Ms.Raksha.Around twenty students were present during this session. The team consisted of eight members, with responsibilities divided to ensure the smooth conduct of all activities.
The main focus of the session was teaching the concept of a family tree and improving students’ basic English vocabulary. Students were introduced to family-related words such as grandfather,grandmother,father,mother,brother, and sister.The team explained how different family members are connected within a family tree, helping the students understand family relationships clearly.
One of the team members narrated a short and meaningful story. Following this,students were encouraged to retell the story in their own words,helping to build their confidence and speaking skills. Students were also guided in writing correct spellings and practicing basic sentence formation. Another activity involved teaching them how to introduce themselves using four simple sentences.
By the end of the session, many students were able to confidently talk about themselves and explain family relationships.The session was interactive and engaging, with students showing great enthusiasm and active participation throughout.
Session 4 – 28th February 2026
The final session of the program was conducted on 28th February 2026, marking the closing of the Communicative English Program. The session began with a welcome speech by Ms. Raksha, followed by a revision of all topics taught during the previous visits. The students’ demonstrated strong recall of the concepts covered, reflecting the irunderstanding and progress over the course of the program.
Several activity-based exercises were conducted as part of the revision. One activity focused on recalling verbs, where students were asked to list action words such as singing, dancing, and others they could think of. The class was divided into two groups boys and girls,and both groups participated enthusiastically in writing down as many verbs as possible. A follow-up activity encouraged students to come forward and act out sentences using the verbs they had listed, helping them understand word meanings through actions.
Aself-introduction activity was also conducted. A demonstration was performed using a simple dialogue, “Hi, my name is Raju. What is your name? Where are you from?” — after which students were invited to practice the dialogue themselves. Although initially hesitant, they quickly grasped the pattern and performed confidently.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shimna, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school principal and teachers for their continuous support.Special appreciation to our ATC In-charge,Ms.Bhoomika, whos eguidance,encouragement,and commitmentwere instrumental throughout the entire program. Her leadership ensured that each session was meaningful, well-directed, and beneficial to the students.
The Communicative English Program concluded on a positive and memorable note, with enthusiastic participation from the students and a sense of accomplishment shared by all team members. The program not only strengthened the students’ English communication skills but also boosted their confidence and eagerness to learn. Under the unwavering support of Ms. Bhoomika (ATC In-charge) and the collective effort of all the participating groups, the outreach initiative successfully met its objectives and left a lasting impression on the school community.
