The session was led by the resource persons Mrs Hannabel Alva, Head of the Department & Assistant Professor, and Ms Relisha D’Souza, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Big Data Analytics, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.
MrsHannabel Alva introduced the students to the four types of Data Analytics. She explained Descriptive Analytics, emphasizing tools and processes such as data collection, data cleaning, data exploration, segmentation, key performance indicators, historical trend analysis, and data visualization to understand what is happening in data. She further discussed Diagnostic Analytics, which focuses on identifying why events occur through data exploration, data mining, and correlation analysis. The session also covered Predictive Analytics, which helps forecast future outcomes, and Prescriptive Analytics, where Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are used to recommend appropriate actions and decisions.
Ms Relisha D’Souza complemented the theoretical concepts by sharing real-world applications of predictive analytics across various sectors. She highlighted its role in improving retail operations, modern banking, healthcare, insurance, supply chain and logistics, and the real estate sector, helping students connect analytical concepts with practical industry use cases.
The lecture was informative and engaging, enabling students to gain valuable insights into the importance, impact, and value of data analytics in today’s data-driven world.
