St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organised the “Survival Pledge Campaign 2026 – For the Protection of Nature” on 3 September 2026 at the Open Air Stage of the college. The campaign was organised by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Cell in association with the Commission for Ecology and Environment, Commission for Youth and Commission for Education, Diocese of Mangalore.
The campaign was organised with the objective of creating awareness among young people about the urgent need to protect nature and encouraging them to take personal responsibility for building a greener, safer and sustainable future. The initiative was particularly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 13 – Climate Action and SDG 15 – Life on Land.
More than 300 students actively participated in the programme. The large participation reflected the students’ enthusiasm and commitment towards environmental protection and sustainable living. Students gathered at the Open Air Stage and collectively expressed their commitment to protecting nature through the Survival Pledge.
The programme emphasised that environmental protection is not merely the responsibility of governments and institutions but a shared responsibility of every individual. Students were encouraged to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their everyday lives, including conserving natural resources, reducing waste, avoiding unnecessary use of plastics, protecting biodiversity, planting and caring for trees, and promoting sustainable lifestyles.
The Principal, Sr Dr M Venissa AC, graced the programme and encouraged the students to become responsible citizens and environmental ambassadors. She highlighted the importance of nurturing environmental consciousness among the younger generation and appreciated the collective efforts of the SDG Cell and the organising commissions in promoting sustainability on campus.
The pledge taking programme was attended by faculty members and staff, who joined the students in extending their support to the campaign. Their presence reinforced the institution’s commitment to integrating environmental responsibility into campus life and student development.
The initiative stands as a testament to St Agnes College’s continued efforts to promote sustainability, environmental responsibility and youth participation in addressing global ecological challenges. The college regularly undertakes activities that connect student engagement with sustainability and community responsibility.
